“TSCHÜSS BERLIN”
by Katja Holtz
November 21 – December 5, 2010
Opening Reception: Sunday, November 21, 6 – 9PM

graphite. is pleased to announce “TSCHÜSS BERLIN”, new paintings and collages by Katja Holtz, opening on November 21, 2010.
This recently produced body of work mirrors Katja’s impressions of leaving Berlin behind and arriving in New York City. Her work has always been inspired by the visceral decay of urban environments – but upon moving to New York City – twist, color and pop toons mingle the structure. Inspiration still derives from her immediate surroundings – as in the past – walls, graffiti, old poster billboards, electricity poles and housing projects mark the nuisances of process. Vanishing and reappearing hints of texture layer, rip and crack her body of work “Tschüss Berlin”. Materials used for the collages bound dirty blissful snippets of civilization – a collection of “Hallo New York”.
This exhibition is a part of an artist-in-residence program provided by graphite. Her focus during the period will be collage work.
